IPL 2024 Auctions - Rajasthan Royals
This is going to be a series of blogs where we will discuss the IPL 2024 Auctions, how they went for each team, what can be the strengths and weaknesses of the teams and try to predict their strongest playing XI. So Lets start of the series by analyzing Rajasthan Royals.
Rajasthan Royals(RR)
Rajasthan Royals were the winners of first ever season of Indian Premier League. But their journey following their debut season hasn't been too fruitful. They have managed to reach the playoffs a few times but haven't gone all the way to win their second trophy yet. Their best performance apart from the debut season came in 2022 where they managed to reach the final. They would love to get another trophy win under their belt soon.
IPL 2023 PERFORMANCE
RR finished IPL 2023 at 5th position. They had a pretty strong start to their campaign winning 4 of the first 5 matches but they lost their path from their on pretty quickly, finishing with 7 wins in total and missing out on the playoffs spot. They had an extremely strong showing from their young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal who announced himself at the world stage in an impressive style, which also earned him his India call ups pretty soon after the IPL. There were some good performances from Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, Shimron Hetmyer, Trent Boult, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal as well. Overall, it was a bitter sweet season for them.

They also let go of total 9 players from their squad including Jason Holder, Joe Root and Obed McCoy among others. Areas Of Concern
- One of the concern for them will be the lack of equally good backup players in case any of their main player gets injured or is unavailable for selection.
- Another one would be not having the depth in their batting order with the all rounder in Ravichandran Ashwin batting at no 7 whereas teams in recent times have preferred good big hitters at no 7 or even sometimes till no 8.
- Similarly, they don't seem to have a good 6th bowling option if one of their main bowlers has an off day. Riyan Parag and Rovman Powell can roll their arm over little bit but they are definitely not nearly as good to complete 4 overs on most days.
Let me know your thoughts on this squad and playing XI in the comments below.
